My name is Lina. I’m a doglover and owner of Historic Triangle Doodles , located in the Charles City county, just outside Wiliiamsburg, Virginia. We are devoted to raising beautiful, healthy, well-balanced and socialized Tea Cup Maltese and Maltipoos. All of our foundation adults are free from hereditary problems and are backed by a health guarantee. FAQ
Will my puppy be housebroken when I get it?
Just like human babies, you are also taking home a baby that will be trained to go on their potty pads. Just like a toddler, they can (and will) have accidents so you must be patient. Housetraining can be effective but it can take up to six or more months.
Make sure your puppy has access to it’s potty pad at all times so there is no confusion. As it grows and becomes totally vaccinated, you can start moving the puppy pad toward the door your dog will be going out of when going outside. Little by little move the puppy pad to the grass area you envisioned your dog relieving themselves.
What are the brown stains on the face or near the eyes of the puppy?
It is commonly referred to as tear stains. The staining occurs when the puppy is teething or when hormones are high, or there is an excessive amount of yeast in the ears. Most of the time the puppies will grow out of it.
Also, I like to give my dogs good probiotics to help prevent the tear staining. This should be sprinkled on their food once a day.
What kind of vaccinations will my puppy be going home with?
Your puppy will have two vaccinations, which will be up to date. It is VERY important to take your vaccine card with you to your veterinarian appointment so they can see what vaccines have already been given. You do NOT want your puppy to get over-vaccinated!!
Can I let my puppy run around my home or outside in the yard?
No. Your puppy is susceptible to Parvo virus up to two weeks after their last vaccine. Parvo lives for 7 years in the ground and travels on the bottom of people’s shoes to the inside of the house. If you are not holding your puppy, make sure it stays on a sanitized potty pad to protect from any viruses.
What if my puppy will not eat?
If your puppy is not interested in it’s food it is probably due to anxiety or stress through change of environment. You can offer it the refrigerated “Fresh Pet” food, cut into tiny pieces. You can also offer a small portion of boiled chicken breast mixed with broth and some kibble. You can also mix a small amount of powdered puppy replacement milk, small amount of warm water, and some kibble. It is important your puppy eats!
My puppy has diarrhea, what do I do??
It is very common for a small puppy to get diarrhea with all the changes. It’s his first night away from mom and all his litter mates so you can imagine the stress and anxiety it is going through. On the puppy nutrition page, you will find a picture of Advita, a great probiotic to give your puppy on a daily basis
